The Gaming Giant Recruits Popular Battle Royale Developer to Boost Challenged Action Game Ambitious Title
2K Games has secured a seasoned producer from Respawn Entertainment to direct the studio crew at 31st Union, which is currently working on the upcoming over-the-shoulder action-packed title known as this innovative game.
Leadership Shift Follows Poor Response
Brinkman assumes the role of studio head at 31st Union following the departure of former leader Michael Condrey, who was removed from his post due to Project Ethos' disappointing early showing last fall.
On Wednesday, the company's top executive David Ismailer informed team members about this decision through an internal memo, which highlighted that early feedback sessions had revealed the requirement for a distinct vision.
The president expressed that the developers is now refining Project Ethos with a refreshed approach, aiming to address community desires.
Trend of Strategic Acquisitions
This announcement mirrors a similar action taken by 2K Games in the summer, when they hired Rod Fergusson from the Diablo team to work on the beloved franchise studio Cloud Chamber.
Here is the full text from the president's memo:
Team—
I understand you all just completed your meeting - I hope you’re as excited as I am with the positive developments. Last time I sent you all a note, I mentioned the following: “I am confident in this team. You all are some of the most driven and talented designers we have had the opportunity to partner with - and we’re excited for that partnership to endure.”
With your dedication and versatility, particularly over the last year, you continue to prove that.
The player input from last fall’s Project ETHOS testing phase was revealing. It confirmed the promise of a action-packed game but indicated we still had refinements needed. It revealed the necessity for a sharper identity.
It’s been inspiring to see how far you’ve advanced. You embraced the criticism to mind and overhauled the title with a refreshed vision - one that’s ready to fulfill its promise to our fans.
The belief in this project strengthens every day. To further the incredible progress you’ve made, I am thrilled to announce the new hire as the latest Director of the team. After a period of talks, Ben starts with us on next week.
His leadership and experience in the competitive gaming space is vast, having spent the past decade and a half producing and leading some of the most well-known series in gaming, such as Call of Duty: Black Ops, and lately, Apex Legends.
I invite you all in welcoming him in the coming days. We are all looking forward to keep witnessing the progress of the game in the time to follow.
The President
