The former Brazilian leader has been taken into custody after authorities determined he posed a definite escape threat while under domestic detention.

High Court judges said that he had knowledge of a plot which encompassed plans to kill the current president and his vice-presidential running mate, Alckmin, and to imprison and murder Alexandre de Moraes - the Supreme Court justice who has been presiding over his judicial proceedings.

The plot was stopped because it failed to get the backing of the military leaders. His successor was sworn in without problem on January 1st, 2023.

But a week later, on January 8th, thousands of his backers attacked and damaged government buildings in the capital, Brasília.
